WARNING: Long post about the fashion of the last decade!

Well, today has been a really tiresome day, but it is much easier to think of a topic for this blog than it is for my new blog! Wait, I haven't told ya'll about that. I made another blog yesterday titled: In the World of Neurology and Psychology!

Web address is: http://www.neurologyandpsychology.blogspot.com/

I made this blog because I one day either want to become a doctor in the fields of neurology and psychology...duh lol.

Anyways, so today's blog is going to be about my top favorite trends in the past DECADE!! and my least favorite...

My Least Favorite:

The Gladiator Sandle-Boots (2009) - I did NOT like these, they were gaudy and made many outfits look bad.

The Crocs (2004-2005) - They were cute at first, and I loved them when nurses wore them, but then EVERYBODY started wearing them. Even little kids, and it was almost like Twilght. It got rediculous. They started making boots, tennishoes, furry crocs, you name it!

The SUPER Skinny-Jeans (2007-2009) - Nah, did not care for these much. Regular skinny or boot-cut jeans are ok. I like them, but I thought the super skinnies were unflattering.

The over-done, gaudy black heels (2009) - I cannot stand this look. It is everywhere! The huge black heels with the wide straps and studs everywhere looks akward and unfeminine to me. I also don't like it when I see girls wearing them with the cutest dresses. Totally ruins the outfit for me.

The Zippered Leggings (2009) - These...I don't really know what to say except they seem very unfeminine and unflattering to any outfit. I especialy don't like the ones that are sequined or metallic, eck!

The Acid-Washed Jeans (2008-2009) - No. Just no.
Midriff-Bearing Tanks (2000-2002) - Eh, even though I was very young when this was popular, I would feel inappropriate wearing it now, and things have changed since then.

MUDD Jeans (2000-2003) - Not very appealing to the butt. They always made my butt and my thighs look saggy.

The Hollister/Abercrombie Phenomenon (2005-2008) - I'm sorry, but even though I have a few things from these places, I HATED this stage! Too many girls wore this stuff, especially the teeshirts with the logo or the name IN BOLD PRINT OR HUGE. Now Abercrombie is too expensive for anybody to buy anymore and Hollister is not seen (or at least by me) as much. Plus Abercrombie gives me a migraine everytime I go in there, pew!

The Sex Bracelets (2000-2004) - Now who remembers these? I do, but I never wore them for ahem, sex. Eh, I used to wear these in my "punk stage". That stage of my life is not one of my favorites. Plus they made an outfit look lazy.

The Skinny, Barbie-Doll Look (??) - No offence intended to the girl in this picture, she is very pretty. BUT, to be frank, I was very tired of seeing girls that looked like this all over the internet and TV. It seemed like a craze, and many little 12-year-old girls would use these pictures and say, "iM sO hOtt!" in the uppercase/lowercase font that they used.

The Orange Skin Trend (2009) - Ugh is all I can say really...

My Most Favorite

Boho Bags (2007-2008) - They were so cute, and I could fit EVERYTHING in them! The only problem I had with these were that in the hallways at my highschool, girls who had them hit everybody with them, lol.

Uggs (2004-2008) - I know, I know. I hear a lot of people who say they hate these, but I love them. I have a pair. They go with many of my winter outfits, and they are just darn comforitable! The only thing I HATED was how girls wore them in the summer. Omg, come on...you have flip flops!
Floral Statement Necklaces (2009) - I absolutely loved these! I think they are adorable (with the right clothes of course) and they look so feminine.

Flats (2007-2009) - One word: LOVE!!

The Victorian/Vintage Look (2008-2009) - I am absolutely crazy about history, and seeing shirts and dresses replicate the vintage styles is a big plus for me!

Subtle-Glatiator Sandles (2009) - Unlike the high-kneed Gladiators, I loved the flip-floppish gladiators. I loved how some of them were beaded or sequined, and I loved them with dresses.

Distressed Jeans (2007-2009) - I loved these, and they looked so cute in the summer. Not very good for winter though. I have a few of these. I kind of got out of this trend in early 2009 because of the economy (very expensive), and now I realize I can just make these myself.

Sperrys (2008-2009) - God, I love these shoes. They are so comforitable, and I wear them everywhere!

Hottie/Princess/Angel Shirts (2000-2002) - Loved these when I was younger. I had a lot of labeled shirts. Also, I don't think I'd really want these back, but I had fond memories of this trend.

Patriotism Fashion (2001-2003) - Go America! I had a lot of this.

Leggings (2007-2008) - I loved them in the winter time under dresses and skirts, but when people actually started wearing them as pants...uh, no.

The Giraffe Purse (2008) - Who can forget these? People still carry them! I loved mine, and my mom also had one that I was crazy for!

Long Hair (2007-2009) - I finally have my hair long, yay! I also like the long hair trend straight, wavy, curly you name it!

The Maxi-Dress (2009) - I really liked these. They were flowy and light, and I would especially wear one to the beach. I wouldn't much care wear one to the mall though.

Sorry this was such a LONG post! I just wanted to throw that into the open! Also, I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, these are just my opinions.
What were your favorite trends? Your least? And are there anymore trends that I have forgotten?

Happy Birthday Sylvia Likens! (1949-1965)

Today is Sylvia Likens birthday, if you haven't noticed the title :)

If you don't know who Sylvia is, she was a girl back in the 60's that was tortured and murdered by the woman taking care of her, Gertrude Baniszewski. Not only was she tortured by Gertrude, she was tortured by the other children in their neighborhood. There has been several books about her case, one that I have (House of Evil: The Indiana Torture Slaying). There has also been 2 movies about it, which I have also seen (An American Crime and The Girl Next Door).

If you have any time, please read what happened to her.

Let's remember Sylvia for what she was; kind, quiet, youthful, very pretty, and outgoing.

This is what she looked like:

Another day of the year 2010!

Well, Troy and I just got back from seeing the new Disney movie "The Princess and The Frog". It was very sweet and cute, and we just loved it! I also love the message it potrays. Has anybody seen the movie yet? What did you think of it?
What I got out of it was that instead of pushing people aside (or being selfish) to get to your dreams and to money, always have love in your heart, and you WILL get to that very same dream. Having love in your life and the care for other people will be much more rewarding than taking the dream all to yourself. I really do believe that this is what this world needs; love. I may sound like a hippy, but behind all the drugs and the promiscuity of the 60's, I loved what the hippies were wanting to do. I hear everyday about how people shoot each other for wealth, and who brag about the brand new expensive car that they bought instead of using that money for better and much more rewarding things. I hear everyday about people who prostitute women for money. I hear everyday about people who take the charitable money all for themselves, instead of using it for good. Like my mom said, "In time those who commit dishonesty will be the ones who pay for their bad fortune. You will be rewarded for your honesty and your love". She did not say those exact words, but that is what she means. People do things for desperation, and I understand that, but when you are in a panic and you feel like there is nothing left, just stop and think. Just stop and pray. It does work, and I also understand that many people do not feel this way. I respect that. I'm not going to preach, because I am against preaching to other people about things like that. I know people do not believe in the same as I do, and I am not going to force them to do so. I'm only giving advice that may help. But also, use your own strategies! Whether it may be praying or helping other people, or even meditating. Just take a break and think to yourself about what is good and what you can do to make this world a better place for others. It has gotten to the point where scandalous and mischevious activity is going on all around us, and it depresses us. You can change that. I can too.
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, and I am open to opinions. Please do not be too harsh.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi, sorry it's been a day since my last post, I've had a lot going on!
How was everybody's New Year's Eve? Mine was great! My mom and I started on a huge, 2000-peice jigsaw puzzle of the Neuschwanstein Castle. It is very very pretty...and hard!

We also watched a few movies, one I can't think of the name, but is very old. I think it was made in the 1930's and it has Myrna Loy in it.

We also watched the ball drop in New York City! Bye-bye 2009! Hello 2010! The strange thing about that though is that my boyfriend was in Atlanta, and I was at home, which is in two different time zones! We were living it two different years! Based on that, I got this amazing idea. In the future, on New Year's Eve, I want to be in two different years at the same time! I'm going to locate where the line between different time-zones is and stand on it! I'll be in the past, and the future...lol I'm a dork :P
But it's sort of like being at the place where you're standing in four different states at the same time: Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. I'd love to do that too. Mom and I also watched The Aviator, Mona Lisa Smile, Intolerable Cruelty, and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? I absolutely love those movies!

Have any of you been to NYC to see the ball/apple drop? Would you like to?

Time to get back to blogging!

Well, I'm watching Julia & Julie and it just encouraged me to blog, just like Julie. Except my passion is not cooking, which actually, I have thought about starting. My mom loves to cook, I sometimes wonder why she didn't go to cooking school, but she told me it was because she didn't want to. I understand that.
I've also thought about starting a different blog for a couple of my other passions. As you know, this one is about fashion. My mom doesn't really understand my passion for fashion. She's always telling me to save my money and that I've got too many clothes as it is, (I completely understand about the money deal because of the times, but I shop at cheap-ish stores with cute clothes). Well, what about Julie? She spent a lot of her money on pots and pans and food and spices! My mom spends her money on flower seeds and garden tools (which gardening is her passion, along with many others). I LOVE to buy different kinds of clothes and mix and match just to see what will go with what and what wont. I love to find unique little tinker-tinks and put them with the outfits I have put together. I also love to get on websites and save the clothes and put the clothes I like together.
But fashion is NOT my only passion. Here are my list of passions:
- Art
- Fashion
- Architecture
- Medicine
- Singing/Music
- Ghosts
- Reading/Books
What are some of your passions? What inspires you? Does your parents understand your passions? I would love to hear from you!

Amazing!

This may be a short post, but I'm going to talk about all the fun things that have happened this week!
Well, a few not-so-fun things was that I had to take my exams Wednesday and Thursday, but I did good on them, and I am done for the year!
But last night, Troy and I went to see Kenny G and he was AMAZING! He held a note for almost five minutes! His longest record is 45 minutes!

And today my dad, Troy, and I went to a community center to help out with the less-fortunate people. My friend and her mom invited us! It was so much fun, and the kids were so sweet! My dad was Santa Clause too :D

You know what I absolutely just love?

One of my blog buddies and I were talking about how Ohio was a haunted place, and that just got me thinking about some pretty neat haunted places I want to go to. I am nuts over the paranormal and gorgeous old buildings.
Here is one picture from Ohio! Lancaster, Ohio, to be exact. It's called the Mudhouse Mansion. I just love Second Empire architecture! If I had to choose what kind of house I could live in, a Victorian house (especially Second Empire) would be my first choice!

Next, we have an old insane asylum (I love these. They are just so spooky looking, and the architecture is breath-taking!) It's called The Danvers State Hospital in Danvers, Massachusettes. It was recently turned into an apartment complex (Avalon Danvers, and yes, it's very strange). They kept 2/3 of the whole building, the administration and a little bit of both sides of the wings. It is a Kirkbride building, so it had a main administation building, and 2 curve-like wings off to each side. Kind of like a bat.

Another old insane asylum I consider very pretty is The Buffalo State Hospital in Buffalo, New York. It is also a Kirkbride, and it is Richardsonian Romanesque architecture named after the architect Henry H. Richardson. I absolutely love the two towers at the top of the main administration building.

Ok, ok. I know, enough with the old insane asylums, but this is my favorite too! Also a Kirkbride, it's The Cherokee State Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa. It opened in 1902 and is still around today as a correctional center (or penitentary) and a museum.

Here is a building in St. Thomas, Canada called the Alma College. It was destroyed in a fire a long time ago, but I can't remember exactly when. If any of you have seen Orphan, you may recognize this building. It was used as the mental hospital Saarne Instituut. This building struck me as being so gorgeous I had to find it.

Well, these are my favorite buildings so far. If any of you find any other buildings that you just love me, tell me! I love architecture, and I have considered being an architect. I especially have a thing for old architecture. GORGEOUS <3>
